International Tiger Day is an annual celebration that aims to raise awareness of the precarious position of tigers in their habitats, and the need for efforts to conserve tigers in their natural environment. Tiger Day started in 2010 when the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit decided to nominate a day for promoting a global system to protect the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation. Local events in Bangladesh, Nepal, and India have been organised, as well as in other countries. The event is supported by many celebrities and a number of wildlife organisations including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
