I was moved by the firefighters statue in front of St Paul’s cathedral on my recent visit. The statue celebrates the courage of the hundreds of firefighters who have been killed or injured in the line of duty.
The town was witness to the Battle of Lewes in 1264. The battle was fought outside the town, but the ancient castle in the town centre is a reminder of the medieval heritage. This photo shows the town’s castle in an eerie evening light.
