The journey from Banilles to Soubes is superb. We drove through the valleys of the river Lot and the river Olt, passing through Estaing (as in Giscard d’Estaing, a former president of France). The rivers are full of interesting bathing spots, and the odd hydro-electric dam, and the terrain winds up and down so it is a challenging drive.
The home stretch is after you reach the A75 motorway around Canourgue and from there it is more or less plain-sailing, past all the familiar places in the Cevennes. We finally got to Soubes at around 7 pm. It felt great to be at the villa again but after a big lunch, we didn’t really feel like eating too much so it was a simple repas with rose wine and then bed.
