We visited Ithomi last year, and this year the menu was almost exactly the same, although sadly the Briam al forno was off. I had pork baked in the oven, as I did a year earlier. Unusually, Jenny did not order a Greek salad, but went for a salad made of tomatoes, green pepper and onion, and she opted for Souvlaki rather than a marine dish.

Ithomi is the name of the mountain that overlooks Ancient Messene. You have a goos view of the archaeological site from the restaurant terrace. Drinking cold beer after walking round the site with the thermometer popping 40 degrees C is one of the best feelings you can imagine. Add a cooling breeze and the smell of food cooking in the oven, perfection.
