Damascena is a busy café restaurant in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery district. We really enjoyed the friendly service, cosmopolitan ambiance and above all, delicious food.
We arrived about 11 am and the place was already buzzing. Damascena offersa selection of breakfast meze, including juz muz and a choice of fuul dishes.
Juz muz is scrambled eggs with tomatoes, onions and chillies.
Fuul is the Arabic word for “bean” or fava bean and the traditional fuul mudames is among the various fuul dishes offered by the restaurant.
I ordered a cheese toastie and what turned out to be the best vanilla milk shake I have had in ages. I ended up taking care of the fried eggs on flatbread that had turned out to be too much for my family, who had the breakfast meze and a delicious fattoush salad.
