Hope Gap
I visited Hope Gap for my birthday on 1st August. A perfect day, and we arrived in the early afternoon, just in time for high tide.
This beautiful bay is located just outside Seaford in East Sussex.
From the beach here, you get a scenic view of the Seven Sisters, a line of chalk cliffs that runs from Cuckmere Haven to Beachey Head.
Hope Gap has been the subject of several books and, recently, a none too cheerful film.
The reef here is long, shallow and rocky, so it’s only really possible to swim at high tide or in the hour or two after.
The water is a beautiful murky green, and you can often spot seals swimming in the deeper waters beyond the reef.
